The Federation for Community Schools compiled a "bill into law" case study using the passage of HB684 and the work that all of our stakeholders did around advocating for that bill as an example of the legislative process. Please click here to access the case study. The case study includes information about the advocacy steps that were taken, as well as sample tools and resources for use by other community school supporters.
The Federation also compiles materials for an ongoing advocacy tool kit. These tools include items that will help Federation members engage in the following advocacy activities:
- Meet with legislators and other policy makers
- Host policy maker visits in your community school
- Generate phone calls and letters to educate policy makers on community schools
- Organization actions in support of community schools
- Talk with the media to generate public awareness of community schools
- Create talking points on community schools so there is a consistent message
- Summary of research that demonstrates the impact of community schools
